The other night at the hospital, Trudy told me she had received an email from her friend's 10 year old daughter, Lilly, wishing John well. Lilly had attached a photograph of herself and had written, "Here is a picture of me. I think it's cute! Do you?"
No, Trudy did not. I asked my mother if she was going to let the little girl know that her picture was unflattering. Eyes glued to the television hanging from the ceiling at the foot of John's bed, Trudy responded, "I haven't had a chance to write her back yet. I dunno. (thoughtful pause) She's so sensitive."
